Doug the Shar Pei recently travelled from Perth to Dallas Fort Worth with Petraveller. We spoke to pet mum Louise about Doug and why she chose Petraveller for her pet’s relocation. Here’s what she has to say.
About six years ago, Louise had moved into her first new home and was on a hunt for a couch on Gumtree when she stumbled across Doug, who was just six weeks old. She recalls, “Doug was in a bad situation, and we knew that we had to take him. We didn’t have a couch for a month or two, but we had our Doug. He has a stern face, but a heart of gold.”
Doug loves humans! Louise says fondly, “He is 35kgs of pure cuddles. If there is attention to be given, he is there to accept it. He isn’t a fan of other dogs, especially smaller dogs, after being attacked when he was one. He can seem a little aggressive, but I think fear plays a big part in his reaction.”
The Firmin family were relocating to Dallas Fort Worth for work. They wanted to take this opportunity for the family to see and experience another part of the world. Taking Doug with them was a forgone conclusion. Louise explains, “Recently we went travelling for three months and left Doug behind with some good friends. We missed him too much to ever leave him behind permanently. Not taking or rehoming Doug was never an option for us. I believe that once you bring an animal into your home, they are there for life.”
Louise had to move from pillar to post to find a suitable pet travel agency for Doug’s relocation. She says, “Initially we had enquired with an American company, and they were very kind to send on Petraveller’s details. After communicating with Petraveller’s customer service, I could sense their passion and love for pets, which is so important for me. I didn’t feel as though we were just another number and knew that Doug would be well looked after.”
Doug had a comfortable journey from Perth to Dallas Fort Worth, and we believe he is in the process of making new human friends. Thank you, Louise, for placing your confidence in Petraveller for your Doug’s relocation. We wish you good luck and many more adventures with adorable Doug!
