Here’s the relocation story of a purrfect work from home buddy who is very chatty and more of a dog than a cat. Read more to know about Rufus and his international relocation experience from Sydney to Helsinki with Petraveller.
Sofia and her partner Joseph became pet parents to a Domestic Shorthair kitten Rufus in June 2020. He was seven weeks old when he joined the family and is still a kitten as he’s not quite one year old yet. Sofia recalls, “We got him from an older couple whose cat just had a litter in the neighbouring town here on the Mid North Coast.”
Sofia describes her pet’s personality. She says, “Rufus has such a good personality. We jokingly call him a dog-cat as he is very companionable for a cat and even plays fetch with us! His favourite fetch toy is a hair tie. He is crazy for them. You can’t leave a hair tie on the loose anywhere in the house as he will find it and play with it. The laser pointer is his second-favourite toy.”
She smiles and continues, “Rufus loves to hang out with us in the garden, chasing us, leaves and other critters. When he is not hanging out with us or outside exploring or playing, he chills around and takes cat naps. We have even found him napping in a tree in our backyard!”
Rufus is very chatty and likes to talk. However, he’ll definitely express his displeasure vocally if he is hungry or feels ignored or left out. Sofia says affectionately, “Rufus grew up with me working from home, so he is quite attached to his humans. He’s generally pretty easy around new people, he’ll suss them out, but he is not too scared. Even in the car, he is generally just sitting in our laps, not in a crate, as he is so relaxed and likes to be where the action is.”
After living in Australia for ten years, Sofia was moving to Helsinki, Finland, to be closer to her family. She says, “I am a dual Finnish and Australian citizen, and we have been talking about moving to Finland for quite some time. We always knew we wanted to live in Finland at some stage. Covid has added complexity to travel and is partially the reason we have decided it is time to go to Finland.”
International pet travel has become highly challenging due to different travel guidelines during the global Covid-19 pandemic. Hence, Sofia decided to choose an accredited international pet transport company to assist her relocate Rufus. She requested quotes from a few pet travel companies in Australia before choosing Petraveller. Sofia says, “We immediately found Petraveller to be by far the most responsive and helpful. We had a couple of the others not even respond to phone calls or quote requests, but Petraveller was great to deal with from the start.”
Brave cat Rufus made his long journey effortlessly and reached Helsinki in good health. Thank you, Sofia, for trusting Petraveller with your adorable pet’s international relocation. We hope you are enjoying your family time with sweet Rufus in Finland.
