Basil and Dillan

“Basil will do anything for a snack.”

Petraveller relocated adorable Miniature Dachshund Basil safely from Melbourne to Christchurch. Pet dad Dillan talks about his international pet travel experience and tells us what led him to Petraveller.

Basil was a surprise gift for Dillan’s spouse Amelia’s 30th birthday. Dillan says, “He flew all the way from Queensland at eight weeks old, and he has been the best little thing!”

Basil is an extremely loveable dog, who is not afraid of much besides the vet. Like most dogs, Basil loves to play, loves attention and loves loads of cuddles. He has a bit of separation anxiety but doesn’t take him long to warm up with a few pats and cuddles.

Dillan laughs and says, “He’s very food/treat focused and will do anything for a snack. At times he’s very needy and isn’t great with being in a crate. When he gets cold, he likes to burrow under his blankets and sleep. He barks when he wants to play or to sit on your lap.”

Basil has a health condition that makes him limp. Dillan explains, “He has a deformity in his elbows that we have only discovered in the last month which causes him to limp. It is usually brought on after long walks and jumping around from excitement. He is going to have an operation when we get back to New Zealand.”

Elaborating further, he adds, “Basil doesn’t act as if it slows him down at all, but we have been advised to keep him from jumping off anything and his walking time not too long.”

Dillan and his family were relocating to Christchurch, New Zealand. He says, “We have decided to move to Amelia’s family farm in New Zealand. We want to be closer to family until we figure out our next move.” He adds, “We are hoping to come back to Australia next year.”

As all pet parents, the safety and comfort of their pet was Dillan and Amelia’s topmost priority.
