Elbe and Alexander

Sydney to Copenhagen

Trip Overview

Owner: Alexander Chapman

Origin: Sydney

Pet Name: Elbe

Destination: Copenhagen

Breed: German Shepherd

“Elbe is my sidekick.”

Here’s the travel story of a loving German Shepherd, Elbe, who is very protective of her dad. Read about Elbe and her international pet travel story as she flies from Sydney to Copenhagen with Petraveller.

Alexander became a pet parent to a beautiful German Shepherd, Elbe, when she was eight weeks old in 2019. Alexander smiles as he recalls, “Elbe quickly became my sidekick, being the best partner for the Covid lockdowns in Sydney that anyone could ask for.”

Elbe is a very kind, loving, and relaxed dog. Alexander dearly adores his pet. He says affectionately, “Elbe is a naturally aloof dog but extremely protective of her dad, and she knows when her dad is safe. She’s a self-confident pup; however, there are a few occasions when she demands all the cuddles, and attention one can give. Living near a golf course, Elbe has developed a keen eye for golf balls from a young age. For three years, she has had one very special pink golf ball, which she hides in the house and brings out once a month. I cannot, for the life of me, find where she hides it. But, without fail, it’ll appear in her mouth each month.”

Alexander adds, “There is nothing Elbe loves more than the beach or being out on 100 acres at my dad’s farm where she can run free and put that nose to the ground to explore all the new scents.”

Alexander says, “I’ve been a type-1 diabetic since 1989, and Elbe quickly started picking up on low blood sugar symptoms ahead of time. I now pay much more attention to her when she’s nudging me and not asking for pats or a treat.”

Elbe was excited to move to her new home and be reunited with her dad as Alexander relocated to Copenhagen for work. He says, “I was relocated for work in February 2023 after being given an international posting in late-2022. Leaving Elbe behind was never really an option for me. She’s a safety backup as she detects my glucose, but also because she’s my best mate. That, coupled with the opportunity to hike in Scandinavia together, let Elbe enjoy what she loves most: open spaces in nature. There was no doubt she was coming with me.”

For a devoted pet parent like Alexander, the well-being of his pet was always on his mind, so he began looking for a trusted and efficient pet transport agency to help with a stress-free move. While looking for the best pet travel options and after reviewing several pet transport companies in Australia, Alexander reached out to Petraveller to help with Elbe’s relocation to Copenhagen. He says, “Petraveller just seemed to get it. I looked at a few options, reviews, everything as a starting point. What really stuck out to me was their understanding about what owners go through when they are away from their pets, let alone travelling! Throughout the whole process 'getting it' has been exactly how I'd describe Petraveller. You really are totally connected, can ask anything, and the transparency is right there. There's nothing that's too much or too silly, and that's what I love the most.”

Alexander was very happy with Petraveller. He says, “We had a preferred window for Elbe’s travel, and I didn’t want her arriving too long after me. Petraveller managed to get her on the most perfect day possible and reunited us. Thanks to Petraveller for being there, being super patient with my questions, and reassuring me. It made the tedious and sensitive process extremely easy and comfortable for someone who adores their doggo! I was super anxious about how Elbe would get used to the crate. When Petraveller delivered the crate, Elbe went straight in and had a nap!”

We are happy to say that Elbe was a well-behaved passenger and is now happily reunited with her dad. Thank you, Alexander, for trusting Petraveller with your precious family member. We wish you lots of exciting adventures in the beautiful outdoors of Denmark with adorable Elbe.
