Trey and Ruairidh

“Petraveller helped us keep the cost low by letting us do many things on the checklist.”

Ruairidh recently travelled with his handsome lad Trey from Perth to Copenhagen with Petraveller. Proud pet dad Ruairidh talks about his pet’s personality and explains why he employed Petraveller for the relocation. 

Trey was rescued from the Shenton Park dog rescue and was adopted by Ruairidh about ten years ago. Proud dad Ruairidh talks warmly about his pet, “Trey is never more than one or two metres away from us. He sleeps on his beanbag next to our bed every night and comes up in the morning for a quick cuddle before we start our day.”

Ruairidh adds, “In the last couple of years as he’s gotten older and he isn’t as great with some other dogs as he used to be. Trey can be a bit territorial, especially around us if another dog comes and gets in his personal space.” Trey loves people but isn’t fond of the vet. He hates to be examined or prodded with needles and tends to growl as he feels threatened when any medical procedure is being done to him but never actually bites anyone.

Ruairidh with his partner Vera decided to relocate from Perth to Sweden as his partner is originally from there. After living in Australia for three years, Vera’s visa was nearing expiry. Ruairidh says, “I’m ready to start a new adventure in Europe and hopefully find work there!” After having Trey for ten years, leaving him behind would break Ruairidh’s heart. So he decided to take him along.

Ruairidh started looking for pet travel options to assist him with his pet’s relocation. He spoke to about four different transport services before choosing Petraveller. He says, “We chose Petraveller because they were the only company amongst the ones we called taking a different route. Petraveller made sure Trey would never be on the tarmac in the heat of the day. We had heard a few horror stories of dogs overheating after being in the hot Middle-Eastern sun and wanted to avoid it.”

Ruairidh adds, “Petraveller arranged for Trey to spend the night in Sydney and have minimal time in the UAE, instead of having to stay overnight in such a hot country. This attention to detail made us feel a lot better about Trey’s long trip.”

Ruairidh continues, “We are both freelancers, and the fact that Petraveller were happy to let us buy our own crate, and do as many things on the checklist as we could ourselves, to keep the cost down was an important factor for us.”
