Jixer and Rebecca

“Jixer is in the forefront of our minds when we make everyday decisions.”

Pet mom Rebecca talks about her pet, Jixer and shares her pet relocation experience from Sydney to Auckland. 

The Small family brought Jixer into their home when he was around six to eight weeks old. Rebecca says, “We are originally from New Zealand, and we (my husband, Jix and I) all moved over to Australia at the end of 2017. He has been lucky to have his parents working from home in Australia.”

Jixer is a smart dog who knows a lot of tricks and loves to please. Talking about his health, Rebecca shares, “Unfortunately, when Jixer was about six months old, he had to have anchor knee surgery on his elbow. He was required to have crate rest for six weeks and then minimal exercise for six months after that. We found out at this early stage that he had arthritis which we have been treating since.”

Rebecca goes on to share, “Jixer also has an allergy for which he takes pills daily. As he was on crate rest so early, his socialisation has been impacted. As a result, he typically does not get on with other dogs or small children. He loves to play, swim and fetch. Unfortunately, these activities are limited for him due to his joints, but we take him for walks daily.”

The Small family were moving to Auckland, New Zealand, for work reasons. Rebecca says, “My husband got a promotion at the company he is working for. It is the same company he changed jobs for when we moved to Australia. When we had moved to Australia, we did not even consider leaving Jix behind. He is a part of our family and is at the forefront of our minds when we make everyday decisions.” 

Rebecca decided to take the assistance of a pet travel company to help with Jixer’s pet relocation. Rebecca says, “We used Aeropets for our travel to Australia. We had considered using them again but the customer service I received from Petraveller when organising a quote and being talked through the process was excellent. I felt all my questions were answered and that I (and Jix) were cared for and that all our needs would be met. I felt as though we are in good hands with Petraveller.”
