“Lupe likes constant praise.”
Being away from loved ones during the COVID-19 pandemic has not been easy for many. Jacky moved back to her home town Auckland with her Bernese Mountain Dog Lupe to be closer to family. Read on to know more about Lupe and his international pet relocation experience.
Lupe became a part of the Romanes family about six years ago when he was a puppy. He lived most of his life in Melbourne, where he enjoys long walks on the beach. Jacky says, “Lupe likes routine, constant praise and reassurance. He loves people letting him give them a sniff before approaching him for a pat. He likes cuddles with his human friends and lots of treats.”
Bernese Mountain Dog Lupe has a very loving personality. Although he is sometimes a little anxious in unfamiliar situations, he is easily helped with a few reassuring pats and his favourite treats - carrots, bananas and biscuits. Jacky says, “Lupe does not like to be pushed into places, and will respond better to a bribe of a treat rather than aggressive voices or movements. If in the rare event Lupe becomes aggressive, it is best to back away until he calms down.”
She further adds, “Lupe’s anxiety can cause him to become stressed in situations where he does not feel in control, and due to his large size and bark it is best not to match this behaviour with aggression. He will become trusting and cooperative with an individual as long as he is treated with care and a calm approach.”
Lupe has slightly weak hind legs. Jacky explains, “Lupe has moderate pain around his hind legs and hip region. He should never be pushed from this area as it causes him pain. He has recently been prescribed anti-anxiety medication to help with his anxiety. We have seen great success with this treatment in terms of his behaviour and general wellbeing.”
The Romanes are originally from New Zealand, and were moving back to their homeland in Auckland due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Jacky says, “Lupe is lucky enough to be making his first trip to New Zealand to live out his last years on a bigger property.”
Jacky decided to take the assistance of an international pet relocation agency to manage the ins and outs of the move. She began her search for the right pet transport company, and reached out to Petraveller to manage Lupe’s transport to New Zealand. She says, “After extensive research and recommendation from a friend who has used the service, we decided to go with Petraveller.”
We are glad to say that Lupe had a relaxed journey and made it to Auckland safely and in great spirits. Thank you, Jacky, for giving Petraveller the opportunity to relocate your adorable boy Lupe. We wish you a happy life and many fun adventures with Lupe in New Zealand.
