“Macklin will give his left paw for a chunk of chicken.”
Petraveller helped pet mommy Deidre relocate her lovely Nova Scotia Retriever Macklin from Melbourne to Auckland. She talks about her pet’s temperament and tells us why she partnered with Petraveller for her pooch’s international pet relocation.
Macklin joined the Cleland family about two years ago, just after Deidre got married. Macklin is two-and-a-half-years-old now. Deidre says, “We’d wanted a dog for a long time, and he has been a fantastic addition to our lives. He has been the slightly spoilt centre of attention until our daughter was born six weeks ago. But he is adjusting beautifully and takes his job as protector very seriously. He was a very energetic puppy, and has become a lovely dog. We can’t wait to get him settled in New Zealand.”
Macklin has a lovely temperament and is very well-behaved, provided he has had decent exercise. Deidre laughs and says, “He’s food-obsessed, and will give his left paw for a chunk of chicken (or a swim in any water!). He’s very good with other dogs, but fairly independent. He's often not very interested in playing with other dogs, he’d rather chase a ball or sniff a bush.”
Deidre adds, “Macklin is fine around people, but doesn’t love to be patted by strangers, as he’s a wee bit anxious. Once he’s had time to get to know someone and interact on his terms, he’s very friendly.”
After living in Australia for five years, it was time for the Cleland family to head back home. Deidre says, “Macklin is 100% part of the family, and so absolutely was always going to come with us!”
International pet travel has become extremely challenging due to the travel restrictions in place because of the global COVID-19 pandemic. To make it easier, Deidre decided to engage the services of an international pet transport company to assist her in relocating her pet safely to New Zealand.
Deidre reached out to Petraveller for Macklin’s pet transport. She says, “We chose Petraveller because of their quick response and their availability to talk through our concerns and the additional questions we had, given the potential complications around COVID. We were trying to balance a few different aspects of the journey home, and we needed to be reassured that Macklin would be taken care of. So being able to speak to someone and understand the process was important and appreciated.”
We are delighted to say that despite the challenges during these trying times, Macklin reached his destination safely. Thank you, Deidre, for trusting Petraveller with gorgeous Macklin on his pet travel to Auckland. We wish you happiness and many fun adventures with Macklin out there in New Zealand.
