Mia became a part of Alicia’s family at the tender age of eight weeks. Mia is a playful goofball who always becomes wildly excited when it’s time for walks. However, the family recently experienced a heartbreaking loss. Mia’s dear “brother” Parker, who was meant to accompany them to New Zealand, passed away suddenly. Their bond was strong, and Parker’s departure has left a noticeable void in Mia’s heart. Alicia says, “Mia shows signs of missing him and grieving his absence.”

Mia’s personality shines through in various ways. Alicia says, “Mia is fiercely protective of her family and can give a good growl at those she doesn’t know. However, once she has the chance to properly sniff them, she showers them with licks.” Mia harbours an intense fear of lightning and thunder, seeking solace in the comforting presence of her loved ones during storms.

The Melton family were returning to their hometown in Christchurch. Alicia says, “My husband is from New Zealand, so going to be close to family and provide our children with the opportunity to build relationships with relatives they rarely get to see in Australia.” In preparation for their new life, the Meltons have purchased a sprawling 1.2-hectare lifestyle block, envisioning it as the perfect haven for Mia to run and enjoy her newfound freedom.

Since joining the Melton family, Mia has only known one house as her home. So, moving to an entirely new country and exploring unfamiliar territory was exciting and daunting for Alicia and Mia.
