“Bess is a happy-go-lucky girl.”
Dean and his adorable Doberman Bess relocated from Perth to Edinburgh with Petraveller. Dean talks about how Bess became a part of his family and why he chose Petraveller.
Dean adopted Bess when she was five years old from Houston Doberman Rescue when he was volunteering there two years ago. Dean says, “We do not know her full history, but we know that at some point in her life someone either tried to crop her ears themselves or abused her. They ended up cutting one ear off and damaged the other. Despite her being overweight and looking a bit rough around the edges, we could see she had a great personality and was an amazing dog.”
Dean used Bess as a training dog to help rehabilitate other dogs at the shelter and make them more adoptable. Bess has also completed her Canine Good Citizen Advanced Training in the US. The Terry family relocated to the UK and then to Perth, Australia and brought Bess with them.
Dean speaks passionately about Bess and says, “Bess is a balanced dog when it comes to interaction with other dogs. She will ignore dogs that are not calm but will growl and warn other dogs if they are too boisterous or try to dominate her. She has a calming effect on nervous or anxious dogs, making her the perfect rehabilitation dog.”
Dean adds, “Bess is not a dominant dog, does not bark and has never bitten another dog. Although she’s had a bad experience with humans, she is very trusting of people when she is with us. Bess has never shown any aggression towards humans and is a happy-go-lucky girl who wants to please humans.”
The Terry family were moving back home to the UK after working for some time in Australia, and leaving Bess behind was never an option. Dean was a tad concerned about the long flight. He says, “I think Bess could get nervous during her relocation, but it is easy to calm her down.”
When they relocated from Scotland to Perth last year, the Terry family used Petraveller for the Australian leg of the journey. Dean says, “We had a great experience with Petraveller last year. Having had a terrible experience when we relocated from the United States to the United Kingdom, it makes a huge difference when you can trust someone to take care of your pet when not in our care.”
Bess arrived safe and well in Edinburgh, UK. Dean was happy with the pet relocation experience. He says, “Bess arrived in great spirits after her long journey. We had a bit of a hiccup when we were thrown a curve ball because of a technical fault in the airline. Petraveller stepped up and took care of everything without any pressure on us, though it must have caused a lot of extra work at their end.”
Thank you, Dean, for trusting Petraveller with precious Bess. It was our pleasure to be part of sweet Bess’ pet travel experience. Best wishes and tons of cuddles to Bess!
