Local Pet Requirements

Pet dogs in Toronto must be licensed and always wear the licence tag on their collars. Dog registration is easy in Toronto; you can register your dog online, in person, on the phone or by mail. The license is valid for one year.

Toronto has leash laws to ensure dogs do not scare or intimidate other dogs and people. When you take your dog out in public, ensure they are on a lead not more than two metres long. It is illegal to tie your dog to a pole or a bike rack in Toronto.

Pet parents are allowed to own a maximum of three dogs in Toronto and cannot walk more than three dogs at a time unless they have a commercial pet walker’s permit.

Parks in Toronto are numerous; from small lead-free enclosures to beautiful gardens with hiking trails, canines are spoiled for choice in the city. My favourite thing in Toronto is to explore the many parks, from Trinity Bellwoods Park to Sherwood Park, Coronation Dog Park to the Cedarvale Ravine – we have visited them all.

The best thing about Toronto is that small dogs like me can ride public transport. We usually take the bus or the streetcar to visit our favourite restaurants in the city.
